CSX railroad president, Michael Ward, announced that the railroad will spend $1.6 billion on track upgrades and terminals this year. Recently, CSX has placed 2,400 employees on extended leave and parked 600 of its 3600 engines. However, Ward indicated that he felt these actions were short-term and that rail would come back strong in the near future.
This bullish assessment by CSX railroad could result in more work for employees in the near future. CSX railroad did not issue any comment about railroad employee injuries, particularly those injuries that are the result off years of exposure to hazardous materials or unsafe working conditions on the railroad, examples off such claims include asbestos disease, such as mesothelioma, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Many injured or railroad employees also find themselves suffering from knee and back problems that are the result of track ballast conditions and unsafe locomotive engines.
